So, You are Looking for a Teacup Yorkie?

Most frequently asked questions I get are:

"Do you have teacup yorkies for sale?" or " Do you breed miniature yorkies for sale?" or "Do you have yorkies small enough to fit in my purse full grown?"

NO! They don't exist! Or, NOT USUALLY! --Reputable breeders will on occasion have smaller puppies from a normal sized breeding pair, these puppies are not as high risk being conceived from normal size parents, unlike breeders that purposely breed their tiniest adults for the sole purpose of producing very undersized yorkie puppies.

The imaginary "teacup yorkies, t - cup yorkies, micro mini yorkies, babydoll, teddy bear miniature yorkies or pocketbook puppies" are just adjectives describing small yorkies.

Some breeders  consistently breed very tiny 2 - 4lb adults producing the tiniest offspring resulting in VERY high risk puppies! This is just a very small dog --a tiny yorkie baby that is fragile, prone to health problems and often nothing but a heartbreak waiting to happen.

A yorkie shouldn't be a frail nervous little dog yet these little ones tend to be just that!

There's ONLY ONE Yorkshire Terrier classification and that is "Toy Breed"

I do NOT recommend purchasing a Yorkshire Terrier under 4 pounds estimated adult weight.

Many yorkie babies under 4 lbs tend to have frail body structure, fragile bones and numerous heath issues (please refer to our - Hypoglycemia). Many lack proper mouth size for healthy teeth resulting in early teeth loss and difficulty eating. Many tiny yorkies have trouble regulating blood sugar resulting in hypoglycemic shock or worse coma and death.

A yorkie that matures to 4 - 7lbs is what every reputable breeder strives for consistently breeding within breed standard.

Do not buy from a pet store---

They have no concern for the quality, health or welfare of their adult breeding yorkies. They do not care for the health, temperament, quality or placement of the puppies they are producing. They do not socialize their puppies nor provide the proper nurturing and health care a young yorkie puppy requires and deserves. Puppy Mills sell their puppies at a very young age to the pet stores, often times at 6 weeks old the puppies destination are cages in your local pet store. The pups are only a part of their pet store inventory. They wont be able to tell you the history of that pup.

Buy from a breeder---BUT---Interview the Breeder

Ask what health issues they've experienced in their breeding? Do they provide a health guarantee? The reputable breeder will provide a very detailed puppy contract with at least a 1 year guarantee covering genetic health issues that may arise within the first year in the toy breed.

Most reputable breeders are a fountain of good information and they are more than willing to either answer your questions, address your concerns, or steer you to more experienced people who do have many more years of experience  and can help you out.

If you absolutely must have the tiniest yorkie you can find--

(1) Read up on Hypoglycemia and be prepared to deal with this issue for years if you buy a tiny yorkie.

(2) Be prepared to have your new little yorkie with you 24/7.  They cannot be left alone if you work outside the home. They cannot be left alone if you have plans for the evening, or holiday plans, or a romantic getaway. If you do find someone to provide 24/7 care while you are away, make sure THEY are as familiar with low sugar issues, or hypoglycemia as YOU are.

(3) Don't bitch about the unethical or uncaring breeder who sold you a tiny yorkie with all kinds of medical issues in the first place. You went looking for just these problems.

(4) The responsible and ethical and caring breeders will produce small yorkies on occasion. They wont sell them to a home with small children. They wont sell them to a young couples in temporary situations, or to career people who just dont have the time to devote to a tiny yorkie who needs to eat alittle bit every couple of hours just to stay stable.

These dogs are companions who depend on us for all their care. We are responsible to take the absolutely best care of them that we can. We are responsible for placing them in absolutely the best home they can possibly go to.    A caring breeder will often place a tiny yorkie in a perfect home for free, rather than sell that same pup knowing the home is not the right match for the pup. I wont risk the life of a pup to make a buck. I reserve the right to refuse to sell to anyone if i have doubts about the future wellbeing of the pup.

Best of Wishes in your search for your next yorkie friend.
